When I was approached by my dear friend Lindsey at Sweat Reset to train camps at a luxury fitness and wellness retreat in Costa Rica, I immediately said yes! I mean, what was there to think about? Doing what I love and having an adventure at the same time? What more could you ask for? 

And while I knew that I was lucky to be a part of something so incredible, I truly had no idea how life-changing this retreat would be for the ladies who attended, and for me.

Let’s Start From the Beginning

Let me rewind and tell you a little about myself. I was first introduced to Burn Boot Camp over four years ago. I just had my third child, and I found myself in a new season. Postpartum found me unmotivated, bored, and lonely. A friend invited me to come workout with her at her gym. All I knew about “her gym”  was that any time I saw someone post on social media about it they were sweaty, smiling, and seemed to genuinely enjoy being there. 

So, with a little hesitation, and a lot of fear, I said yes. Little did I know that saying yes to that invitation would completely change my life for the better. My trainers at Burn Boot Camp invested in me, believed in me, and pushed me in ways that no one had before. As time passed with their support and encouragement, I began my own journey toward becoming a Burn trainer. 

And while this journey was one that challenged me both mentally and physically, I knew it was worth it to be a part of making a difference in people’s lives, the way my trainers had made a difference in mine. 

Experiencing Sweat Reset

At Burn, I found the community I had been missing. I found the courage to step out of my comfort zone and try hard things. And most of all, I found a piece of myself that I thought I had lost. Fast forward to my week in Costa Rica with Sweat Reset. I knew that this retreat would be more than just a fun week of vacation to relax and get away, although that certainly would be a part of it. I knew that my part in training would be more than just creating a hard workout. I knew that it had the potential to be a catalyst in the lives of those who attended, to be a moment where they would be able to look back and know that something had changed for them forever because they had chosen to invest in themselves that week. 

As I thought through and planned the workouts and meditations for the week, I knew that I wanted them to be a part of a bigger picture. An entire week devoted to caring for yourself, mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. The total package.

Sometimes it takes us stepping away from our present circumstances to really allow ourselves to truly evaluate our lives — what’s working, what’s not, what would we like to see changed or improved. While we were in Costa Rica, the ladies were given the opportunity to reflect on where they were currently and where they would like to be, both physically and emotionally. Through one-on-one focus meetings, we were able to evaluate each person’s goals and priorities and put into place plans of action to help them achieve those goals. Probably one of the best parts of a retreat with Sweat Reset is that everything is intentional.

From the scheduled activities to the food prepared, to the workouts and meditation, everything is designed to have a purpose. The activities challenge you to step out of your comfort zone… or at least I know I was personally challenged by zip-lining over the rain forest and paddle boarding on the ocean! Doing all of these things with like-minded women allowed me to create space for relaxation and renewal. 

Prioritizing Your Spiritual and Physical Health

The workouts push you to see your physical health as a priority. The meditations remind you of your worth and beauty in a world that constantly bombards us with messages of “not good enough.” The friendships built breathe life, community, and friendship into you and encourage you that you are not alone on your journey. We are all on a journey in our lives. Sometimes along the way, we get busy, or we get overwhelmed with what life throws at us. We settle for less than what we are worth. We forget what we are capable of. We stop making ourselves a priority or seeing ourselves as valuable. And sometimes we just need a little reminder, a reset, to remember that we are indeed worth it.

I can promise you that all the ladies on our retreat left feeling different than when they came. They laughed, relaxed, adventured, ate amazing food, and got in some great workouts. But most of all, they breathed. They created space for themselves. As a trainer, I can think of few other times in my life where I have seen true life transformation happen in such a short time in such a big way. But I am confident that all who attended were impacted. They, and I, will look back on that week and say that’s when things changed. It will be more than just a memory, it will be a milestone on a journey of living a life of more than we once thought possible.
